Getting Social With Placer

More brands are requesting social posts on placement campaigns, here is all you need to know to add value to your placement for brands and encourage them to provide more free product for your guests.

We encourage hosts who receive free products through Placement campaigns to upload a photo to social, this adds value to the campaign for a brand and encourages them to run more campaigns in the future. It increases the visibility of the campaign and the chances of success.

Here are some frequently asked questions on posting to social with Placer:

Do you have to post to social?
It is not currently a requirement for a placement campaign to post to social, however we do encourage hosts to do so if they receive free product.

What platform should I post to?
Instagram is the current preferred platform for most brands so we encourage hosts to post there. In a recent survey 90% of brands chose Instagram as an important social platform for influencer activity, showing the importance of the platform.

Do you need to declare a post is an 'AD'?
Current ASA guidelines state if you work with a brand to create some content that you’ll be posting on your own channels, it’ll qualify as an ad if the brand:

1. ‘paid’ you in some way (can be freebies, doesn’t have to be money), and
2. had some form of editorial ‘control’ over the content, including just final approval

Therefore with our current model as the brand had no editorial control over the posts you will not need to label them.

However if you would rather be safe, at the moment we know that the ASA likes labels that just say it how it is, e.g.:

• Ad
• Advert
• Advertising
 • Advertisement
• Ad/Advertising/ Advertisement Feature

#gifted is NOT required under the current ASA rules, despite what many influencers are currently doing.

Will I get paid?
Currently hosts are compensated through free products only and posting is optional. However future versions of the Placer platform will enable you to earn for your posts. On some campaigns we will also provide you with an affiliate link for you to earn from any sales you generate for the brand.

Overall it is worth posting to social to maximise the value for brands and increase the chances of future free products, and keep an eye out on the Placer platform for incremental ways to generate income from your social posts for brands in the future.
