Should Your Listing Go Eco?

Recently global bookings have increased by as much as 50% for “environmentally conscious spaces”, while the number of eco-friendly listings has risen by 30% globally, according to Travel Weekly website.

This trend only looks set to continue as consumers and the general population become more and more conscious of the impact of their activities on the environment. Increased news coverage of the impact of the human race on the planet, alongside social and economic pressures are adding to the demand for eco travel.

Airbnb has been condemned in recent years for contributing to the mass tourism problem that has seen popular destinations become overcrowded and are having their beauty eroded by the impact of too many visitors.

Guests are aware of the problem and as the numbers show are voting with their bookings and their wallets for hosts that take their impact on the environment seriously.

With this in mind it may be a good time for your listing to 'go eco', or at least to take steps in that direction, to demonstrate to potential guests that they can feel less guilty about staying with you, and the impact that may have on the local area they have come to admire and not destroy.

Small steps can help

Even small steps in the direction of being more eco friendly can help. For example you may choose to stock compostable coffee pods for your Nespresso machine, have a compost bin for green waste or use guilt free eco friendly toiletries.

These can then be promoted on your listing page, indicating to potential guests your eco credentials.

This will be enough for the vast majority of guests who simply want to see that the effort is being made where possible.

For those who want to take their eco credentials further you can consider solar panels, eco friendly toilet options or ensuing your listing is fully insulated.

Guests want to be guilt free

The reason people go on holiday is to feel good and enjoy themselves, in the current eco-conscious climate this can be harder than ever. Small steps by hosts in the direction of being eco friendly and then letting the guests know about it, can alleviate any guilt they may have around their impact, leading to happier guests and a better stay!

Placer have upcoming free placements for eco conscious coffee options and have a live offer for ESPA vegan toiletries made with minimal impact on the environment.
